The Lotus flower is a symbol of beauty, prosperity and fertility. According to many faiths, within each human on earth is the spirit of the sacred lotus. It represents eternity, purity and strength and is widely used as a symbol of life, fertility, and female divinity. Jessica Sowards is a labor and delivery doula certified by DONA International and member of The Metropolitan Doula Group. She became interested in childbirth after the birth of her son in 2006. Before re-locating to New York, she taught art for many years in her native San Francisco. When she isn’t attending births, or taking care of her family, you can find her dancing capoeira or dreaming about foreign destinations. She feels incredibly fortunate to share in the transformative and intimate experience of labor and birth with her clients.
